Hard to beleive, but the White Album turned 40 this month. Wish I was there at the beginning, but I can still appreciate it now. Here's some footage from the sessions:

This is not a joke.
For real, not a joke. Someone actually funded this, cast this, directed this, and produced this:

The Essential BIlly Bragg
This song is definitely in my "Top 10 All-time" favorites of any genre list. A politically-charged anthem that has been around for over 20 years, Bragg yearns for an overhaul to a political climate that is in desperate need(sound familiar?). I don't really have much more to say about it, but give a listen and you may feel the same. One man, with one guitar, just letting it all go.

Late addition...
It took me a while to find this one but it's worth it. Wait for Paul Rudd's performance, especially the pants.

Best Late Than Never
I'm a few days late, due to obvious post-Vegas haze, but SNL was back on top this last weekend (Thanks DVR). Paul Rudd showed how talented he really is, while a few other guest stars showed up throughout the show. Here's a few bits and pieces...

Ash. St. Action w/ The Ruse
I'm not going to lie. It's been a tough day all around for me, but last night's show put on by The Ruse keeps bringing me back to happy times.
John, Jim, Jason, and Mark put on one hell of a show. We made sure to get there pretty early to see everyone, and the decision was definitely a good one. The show began with a little known gem of a band, a band we'll call Soul D. They were literally just in the US for a few shows before heading back to Japan, and rocked it. Hard. If you get the chance, look them up and I promise you will not be disappointed.
Anyway, The Ruse also killed it. As packed as a Wednesday in Portland can get, it didn't matter. A great set including much of Midnight in the City (new album on Amazon and iTunes) as well as an old favorite or two. (Always a fan of "All I've Done"). So, enough about the show. Listen to the tunes, go buy the album, and go see then next time they come around.

Alkaline Trio @ the Roseland
Please excuse the poor excuse for a picture. I forgot my camera and all I had was my trusty phone. But Alkaline Trio made it back to Portland on Saturday night and played masterfully for a few songs. The bad thing was they were opening up for Rise Against, of which I am now vocally not a fan. I'll take what I can get though, and from the opening of "Private Eye," Matt Skiba and company made everything all right.
Note: You won't find any new stuff here because I just like the old stuff so much.

The powerful cello-ness of Ben Sollee
The last week or two I've been listening to a little Ben Sollee. Pretty good stuff from the Louisville, KY native and definitely can get stuck in your head. Enjoy, especially the collaboration with Jim James. Ben will be at the Hawthone Theatre rippin his cello skills on Nov. 22nd if anyone is interested.

"I've been hangin' around..."
Use Somebody, the newest video from Kings of Leon, has finally hit the internets. KOL claim they've been unsatisfied with every one of their videos to date, so hopefully they are pleased with the latest. I know I am a fan.

I'm sure this will take some time to set in, but, WOW. This is truly a historic moment in our history. Please take a moment to reflect on how amazing it is. We now have set the stage for change in our own country and the world around us.. In honor of this occasion, a few tunes that represent our country and the change that we believe in!
